This two storey dwelling was converted into a Residential building to accommodate a total of six lodging rooms. There were no buildings and works to the exterior of the dwelling. The initial application was submitted to Council with five separate lodging rooms with kitchen, laundry and bathroom facilities. The Council advised that each lodging room was considered a separate dwelling contained within the existing two storey dwelling.
After considerable negotiations with Council and internal buildings and works to the layout of the dwelling we were successfully able to convert the dwelling into a residential building with six lodging rooms, communal kitchen facilities, a caretaker’s residence and a large area of open space for the recreational needs of residents.
This type of accommodation is what is described as social housing, important in the provision of housing for disadvantaged groups in the community, who would otherwise verge on homelessness. The building has been operating as a Residential Building for over the last 5 years and provides a net benefit to the local community without dispensing of the residential character of the area.
